After just missing out on the double double last season Netherfield were one of the favourites to take the title this time around, but losing star player Gary Williamson (pictured left) to Hucknall Town on the eve of the season wasn’t in the script and Netherfield got off to a losing start. Evident signs that Netherfield needed a striker were significant and although Albion rushed into signing three more players they didn’t seem to be the answer in an up and down first few months which saw Albion win four and lose six of there opening ten matches. That included a County Cup first round exit to Bawtry Town.

Unfortunate happenings at Hucknall Town though saw the return of Williamson to the fray and the left sided playmaker helped Albion to eight games unbeaten in the league. A shock slip up against Bunny United was followed by a point against Beeston, which took Albion to the top of the Division by the middle of March. It was a false position though as Albion’s earlier games were to cost them and with teams around us having games in hand even a win against Pheasant was not enough and after three weeks off Netherfield slipped down the table but if they were to win there last four games rather than only take one point out of a possible twelve, Albion might have finished second rather then seventh.
