SEASON CLOSES IN STYLE AND DRAMA !

 Netherfield Albion 4-4 Vernon Villa ~ 3-5-08

Ashland Rovers 2-1 Netherfield Albion ~ 26-4-08

Netherfield ended the season playing their last fixture at Gedling Towns Ground against Vernon Villa. Many thanks go to Roly Ash for allowing us to end our season in style using Gedlings superb facilities. The pitch is in fantastic condition allowing both teams to play neat football at times with a total of 8 goals being scored.

Netherfield's penultimate game was against Ashland Rovers away. A game that saw Netherfield miss plenty of chances and being edged out by the odd goal 2-1. The impressive Sean Todd scored the Albion goal.

The Vernon game was a game that swung back and forth. Netherfield were 3-1 down at half time Killian O'Neil scoring on the six yard line after good work by Paul Nicholas. Netherfield raised the tempo in the second half and 2 goals by Sean Todd and Joe Jackson put Netherfield in the lead 4-3 but after that they faded allowing Vernon to grab an equaliser.

A great way to end the season playing on a great surfaces in a game that was played how it should be with both teams giving each other respect on and off the field. Alan would like to thank all the people that came down to watch the Albion especially to Kriss Garrett for becoming a spectator on matchdays offering his support when he could of easily be playing football. Alan also got the beers in for the lads in the changing room after the game.

On behalf of Alan, Draps and Shaun the website would like to thank all the players that have played a big part in turning this club around this season. Roll on season 08/09.

ALBION CONTINUE THE RUN !

Boots Athletic 1-5 Netherfield Albion ~ 19-4-08

It was 4 wins out of 4 with Netherfield hitting 5 past a struggling Boots team. Although the scoreline is impressive the performance was not. It was another slow start for the Albion and once again a very good second half.

Boots could of took the lead in the 1st 10 mins but for a great save from Santiago diving to his left. The game was evenly matched when on 15 the lively Joe Jackson scored a super goal beating his marker and clipping a shot from outside the box in to the top corner giving the Boots keeper no chance. Netherfield went close on a couple of occasions as chances fell to Hickey but he failed to convert.

Once again the second half in a game was much better. The Albion took the lead when Nicholas tapped home from a good cross by Hickey. Hendricks added a third scoring his 1st goal for the club after being put in to a more forward role. Nicholas got his second of the game. The 5 goals was a forced era after Steve Parry made a surging run and whipped in a dangerous cross that forced the Boots defender to deflect in to his own net. Hendricks could of had a second goal but the Boots keeper made a great save.

A good result, but the remaining last 2 fixtures will be a far tougher task, and the Albion need to raise their game to get anything out those 2 games. Maximum points will put the Albion on a high as the season folds.

3 IN A ROW !

Netherfield Albion 2-1 Premium ~ 12-4-08

The Albion made it 3 wins in a row in a 6 pointer game against Premium. A narrow scoreline that maybe Netherfield did'nt deserve as once again attitude and discipline was a astray. It was Premium who played the better football in the 1st 45 minutes, Netherfield started well enough but it was Premium who took the lead slightly against the run of play. After the goal it was all Premium to the end of the 1st half with them going close several times but some good goal keeping and the woodwork keeping the score down to 1-0.

Netherfield started the second half much better after some harsh words and some re organising by Alan. Mc Culloch got has 1st goal for the club after he met a great cross to smash home vie the cross bar. By now the training that the boys have put in was starting to pay off and the Albion pressed in search of a winner. Draps supplied by placing a lovely shot in to the far post from the edge of the box.

A great 3 points and 3 wins in a row but this was not a good performance and Netherfield rode their luck at times. Premium can feel hard done buy as they probably deserved at least a draw out the game.

A GOODWEEK FOR THE ALBION !

 Vernon Villa 3-4 Netherfield Albion ~ Sat ~ 5-4-08

Netherfield Albion 3-1 Whitemoor ~ Thu ~ 10-4-08

Netherfield have took maximum points from their last 2 fixtures with a fine win over a very good side 4th from top Vernon Villa and a 3-1 win over Whitemoor. Netherfield played some good football and were well worthy winners on the day against Vernon with goals from Jackson 2, Sessions and Buckley who was very impressive on the day.

On Thursday evening the Albion took all 3 points from Whitmoor who played very well on the night and probably didn't deserve to loose as the Albion were not at there best and riding their luck at times. Maybe it was the Groundsman's fault who failed to turn up, forcing the players to get changed by the side if the pitch. Glenn Guyatt was in fine form pulling off some good saves. Schofield played well in his first start for the management showing great commitment. Jackson, Todd and Nicholas bagged the goals.

The two results set up this coming Saturdays fixture with Premium nicely. Premium are scrapping for the points and will not be an easy team to beat, but the Albion go into the game full of confidence to make it 3 out of 3.

ALBION COME CLOSE !

 Bulwell 3-2 Netherfield Albion

The Albion came close to pulling off the surprise of the season so far by going close to getting a draw with the run away league leaders in the end loosing by the odd goal.

Netherfield battled well against a very good team in Bulwell. Although Bulwell were playing the better football Netherfield held their own creating a few chances. It was Jay Knight who leapt at the far post to head home on 35 min for Bulwell after they had pressed the Albion defence. Although a bit edgy a good 1st half display by the Albion.

The Albion players started the second half looking better knowing they were still in the game and eventually levelled on 50 min when Paul Nicholas latched on to the loose ball in the opponents box to hit a good shot in to the bottom corner. This only fired Bulwell up and within 3 minutes a quick attack tore the Albion defence apart and Haywood hit a the goal of the game to restore their lead. Hickey had a great chance to level but his header went just over. Bulwell took their lead to 3-1 on 65 after missing a few chances and the Albions heads seamed to drop. With Bulwell not taking their chances the Albion started to press and got a second when a Buckley free kick was deflected off Todd to deceive the Bulwell keeper and go in making it 3-2. This spurred the Albion on to maybe equalise and take the 1st points off the league leaders but it wasn't to be.

In fairness Netherfield played better the week before against Burton Joyce and with a bit more belief and maybe giving that little extra 10% who knows we could of shocked a few people. Credit to all the players and management as 4 months ago the Albion may well of been well hammered, so it shows the progress that the club has made since the arrival of Ian Draper and Alan Avery in only loosing by the odd goal.

LOCAL DERBY DRAW !

 Burton Joyce 2-2 Netherfield Albion

Netherfield made the short trip to neighbours Burton Joyce and came away with a point when they should of had all 3. Hickey and Nicholas getting the goals.

The Albion started slowly and took time to settle in the 1st 15 allowing BJ to take an early lead. Cousins in his 1st start for the club since rejoining made the error that allowed BJ to score, Cousins made up for it though having a good game at left back. Nicholas smashed home the equaliser on 18 after good pressure in the BJ box. After the goal Netherfield never looked in trouble and pressured well but not able to take the lead. Hendricks standing in goal had very little to do.

The second half was dominated by the Albion going close on several occasions. Netherfield took the lead on 70 when Hickey chased a lost cause, went in bravely and beat the defender and keeper to the ball to score. Todd went close with a good header from a McCulloch cross forcing the BJ keeper into a fine save tipping over. The Albion should of gone on to win but BJ equalised on 85 when a miss hit shot somehow went under Hendricks. Netherfield then panicked in the last 5 that allowed BJ to nearly snatch a winner.

A very good performance and a good point that maybe should of been all three. Well done to all the players on a solid team effort.

MUCH IMPROVED PERFORMANCES !

 Netherfield Albion  2-3 Ashland Rovers

Limekiln 2-2 Netherfield Albion

Apologies for the delay in updating the website but work commitments came 1st.

Having spoken to Alan about the last two games it appears that the Albion are certainly starting play some good football. Joe Jackson netted 3 goals in 2 games and bagged the man of the match against limekiln, a game that we should of maybe won being 2-0 up with 5 to go but credit to Limekiln for snatching 2 late goals. The game against Ashland was 200 times better in performance described by Alan and although going 3-0 down came back to make it 3-2 and probably deserved a draw. Goals by Jackson and Todd.

Next up for the Albion is the short trip to to play our local rivals Burton Joyce. Netherfield will be looking to turn round the 2-0 defeat earlier in the season.

ANOTHER POOR START  !

Netherfield Albion 3-7 Beacon

A poor warm up, approach and attitude to this game by the players cost the Albion dearly. The management had 2 have harsh words. Netherfield have got to learn by their mistakes as for the second week in a row it was a poor 1st half that unlike last week cost us the game.

1st half was all Beacon Netherfield were totally out played went in 5-0 down what more can you say !!!!

The Albion conceded a goal within 3 minutes of the start but were a lot better in the second half and created many chances. Todd fired in a great shot from the edge of the box, Buckley scored for the second week running this time with a his head from a great Draper cross and Jackson smashed home a 3rd for the Albion. The Albion conceded another late on.  Netherfield may well of won the second half 3-2 and played well in the second half but lessons must be learnt if the Albion are to pick up the points.

Caine Thomas deserves a mention as he once again had a very good game. Also John Santiago in goal who had a fine game and could not be faulted for the scorline. Netherfield also signed on Stuart McCulloch on Saturday. Stuart is a very talented player and arrives from Gedling Miners Welfare in the Central Midlands. All at the club would like to welcome Stuart on board.

GAME OF TWO HALVES  !

Netherfield Albion 3-1 NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

Netherfield and Nottinghamshire fought out a good game on Saturday with Notts dominating the 1st half and Netherfield taking the second scoring 3 goals, 2 great strikes from Buckley.

Notts looked the better side in the 1st half and seamed to be first to every ball and challenge, Netherfield were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply and not finding their passes. Caine Thomas was in fine form making at least two saving tackles in front of goal. Notts took the lead on 25 when the Notts player found himself free in the box and finished well giving new boy Santiago in goal no chance. The best chance the Albion had was when Bone raced clear and chipped a shot over the advancing keeper only to see it go just over. As the 1st half draw to a close the Albion looked frustrated.

A few words from Draps and Pates at half time, as Alan Avery was away for this game and the Albion started the second half much the brighter. On 50 min Albion levelled when a ball was laid on for Buckley who hit a half volley shot outside the box that flew in, great goal. Good work allowed Todd to slot home 2 min later for the Albion to take the lead. Netherfield looked more comfortable after this and pressed the Notts defence time and time again. With 10 min remaining Man of the Match Buckley took the pressure off when he hit another great shot that lobbed the keeper from outside the box again.

A great second half by all the players and great team work. Although Buckley bagged the Man of the Match a special mention goes too Sessions, Hendricks, Draps and Caine Thomas who all had very good games.

Netherfield would also like to give a belated welcome to the Club too Alan Hendricks and a welcome to John Santiago who both joined the club recently.

MISTAKES PROVE COSTLY !

Trident 4-2 Netherfield Albion

Netherfield where once again at full strength with 5 substitutes for the game versus 4th in the table Trident but fell to a 4-2 defeat due to missed chances and bad mistakes.

The Albion played well and dominated a lot of the play in the 1st half creating many chances only for the frustrated Alan Avery and the Albion sideline to see go begging. Trident where in no mood to give anything away and defended strongly. Netherfield paid not once but twice for missed chances. A Trident corner somehow beat Wilding and Guyatt at the near post an went straight in. Not 2 minutes later a poor clearance fell kindly to a Trident player who shot into the unguarded net. Very harsh on the Albion to go in at 2-0 down as up till then they had defended well.

The second half was played out a lot more even and the 3rd goal was going to be important, Trident got it to make it 3-0 as their front players out paced the Albion defence to score a well taken goal. Killian pulled one back after some neat football played him in to the box where he calmly finished. Albion's revival hopes where dashed when Trident broke with pace and a fierce cross was deflected in to his own net by Hickey who till then had not put a foot wrong. Todd headed in a second for the Albion late on but Trident well deserved their win in the end.

Netherfield need to put their chances away early on so to put the pressure on the opposition and need to stop making mistakes. Although the Albion played well this was not a good performance, but credit to the players who are now a lot more hungry for training and the next game to put things right.

WHITEMOOR CANCEL !

Netherfield Albion v Whitemoor.

Whitemoor left it late and called off our weekends fixture due to players being unavailable. Netherfield will now claim the pitch expenses off Whitemoor as it was too late to cancel the booking.

Nothing was lost on fitness though as a training session at Redhills all weather pitch was hastily organised. Alan and Draps put the 17 man turn out thru their paces for a solid two hours.

All being well after 3 weeks of training we can put it to good action against out next league opponents Trident this coming Saturday. Trident have had a good 1st half to the season sitting fourth in the table and are looking like a formidable team. Trident lost at the weekend so will be in no mood to give anything to the Albion, they will no doubt be tough opposition. With more training in our usual slot of Tuesday evening and with the Albion not playing in the league for the last three weeks I am  sure the boys will be well up for this fixture.

THE MANAGEMENT GET THIER 1ST VICTORY !

Netherfield Albion 3-1 Attenborough Res

The management duo of Alan Avery and Ian Draper notched up their 1st win for the Albion. They had no less than 17 player to choose from for this arranged friendly versus Attenborough Res. It gave them the chance to look at players in different positions and also to try different formations. Once again all the players responded well by turning up well early and putting in the effort in the pre match warm up.

The game started well for the Albion with the boys having plenty of possession and moving the ball around well. On 15 Aaron Shelton hit a shot that took a heavy deflection deceiving the AFC keeper and slowly rolling in. Buckley played a great ball to Sessions in the box who spun of his marker to hit a shot that was saved well. Both teams were playing some nice football but it was the Albion looking the more dangerous Buckley should of scored with not one but two headers at the far post. Bone had the ball played to him on the edge of the box, he hit a powerful shot that just went wide. AFC pressed the Albion defence on a few occasions but Rippon on his return to the club in goal made 2 saves and dealt with any crosses well.  Defender Caine Thomas got his 1st goal for the club when an Albion corner wasn't cleared, Caine latched onto the loose ball and fired into the top corner. One lapse in Midfield allowed AFC to pull one back, a ball was fed into the Albion box and the AFC broke free and dribbled round the advancing Rippon to coolly finish.

Attenborough started the second half well and looked the better side for 20 mins. Netherfield got their second wind though and soon regained control of the match. O'Neil and Jackson both had shots well saved before Netherfield were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Killian O'Neil who finished well. AFC went close twice with two great shots from outside the box but Guest Player in goal who came on at half time made two outstanding saves. Near the end of the game Shelton had a one on with the AFC keeper, but the keeper saved well.

A great work out for the Albion who looked a lot fitter and a lot more hungrier for the ball, hunting the ball down like the Springbok as Alan Avery described after the match. Smiles all round before, during and after the match. Credit to Attenborough Res who who kindly agreed to this friendly and played their part in giving the Albion a very good test on the pitch, also for participating in a beer and some food back at our sponsors Pub 'Inn The Bank'. Many thanks and good luck with the rest of your season.

FITNESS LACKING AS ALBION DRAW !

Middleton Villa 1-1 Netherfield Albion   (12-1-08)

Another great show of commitment from the boys. Everyone was on time and was ready for the trip across town to play Middleton Villa. Netherfield made one more new signing on the day in former Matrixgrade solid talented defender Pete Wilding. All at the Albion would like to welcome Pete on board.

                                                 Pete Wilding & Killian O'Neil

Netherfield had a very long pre match warm up for this game and when the game started the Albion were well up for it. Netherfield had most of the play in the 1st half and looked by far the better team creating many chances. Toddy had a great header tipped over the bar and Netherfield went close again several times before young Killian O'Neil bagged his 1st goal for the club. Bone turned his defender and ran down the wing pulling the ball back for Garrett who layed a lovely ball to O'Neil who with the outside of the boot hit a great shot just inside the post. Middleton Villa had one great chance when the ball fell kindly but Guyatt in goal shut him down well and Villa player hit his shot on to the post.

Middleton came out in the second half a different team and were pushing the Albion back carving a few chances but Guyatt was in great form and tipped one shot over and saved well diving to his left. Killian O'Neil was also having a good game but Villa were getting more physical snuffing him out the game. Bone and Parry took knocks and came off making way for debuts to Fraser Draper and Pete Wilding. Netherfield as the game wore on were showing signs of lack of fitness and if not for this may of held on for the win. Middleton deserved their equaliser and their goal was as good as Killian's. they broke down the wing crossed and the Villa player headed in to the top corner with nothing Guyatt could do.

A draw was a fair result and the Albion do look a better team at the moment but lack of putting their chances away and lack of fitness cost the Albion all 3 points.
