Netherfield Lift The Title

NAA Premier League Champions 08/09

Well done Everyone involved throughout, a brilliant Team effort and well deserved for a superb season.  Onwards and Upwards

Netherfield 1sts Top NAA Prem

Congratulations go to the 1st team squad who are now placed top of the Notts Amateur Prem.

After what was described as an awful first half performance from manager Alan Avery, the
team bounced back in the second half to produce a much better display to take the victory 4 - 2
away at Ashland Rovers, this followed an impressive win away against struggling Santos 5 - 2.  This now leaves the Albion a point ahead of the rest but with two tough
fixtures in the next two weeks the squad must know that they cannot rest on there last result
and that maximum points against Arnold Longbow and Vernon Villa are a must if they want to
continue there push to be champions.

The second squad who currently lie bottom of the Second division faced tough opposition in 2nd place and flying Kashmir.  With the squad down to a bare 11 and both player managers Pete wilding and Phil schofield starting the team bonded very well and for the first 20 minutes really took the game to Kashmir playing neat and tidy attacking football, however as is football if you don't take your chances when your on top you get punished.  Two goals in quick succession from Kashmir against the run of play gave the away side a 2 - 0 half time lead.

The second half continued like the first with Netherfield applying a lot of pressure and not allowing Kashmir to play even though they had an extra man in midfield, Netherfield continued to create chances most notably debutant Kyle who had one cleared of the line and narrowly firing over the bar from a tight angle, Kashmir where then reduced to ten with 10 minutes left to play following a torrent of abuse towards the referee, however although Netherfield pushed and pushed Kashmir showed there title potentials by holding firm.  Unlucky for Netherfield who certainly matched there opposition on the day showing a lot more team spirit and will to win and were never two goals the worse team.

Netherfield Albion End Of 2008 Round Up

Grey Mare 2 - Netherfield Albion 1

Gedling Southbank 0 - Netherfield Albion 5

Netherfield Albion 6 - Gedling Southbank 2

Netherfield Albion 1 - FC Samba 4

Match Report kindly taken from fc Sambas website

Samba made the short trip to Gedling Town's ground to take on Netherfield Albion, for the return fixture following Samba's 3-1 win earlier in the season.

Samba once again lined up 3-5-2, with Bassett, C.Taylor, Brunt and Sharp all coming into the side after the cup defeat by Santos.

On a large but good playing surface, Samba knew Netherfield would be a stiff test, as they are a good footballing side. The opening exchanges were even enough, with both sides committed in the tackle. Albion liked to use the flanks and did so to good effect putting in a succession of crosses which were dealt with by the Samba defence, although nervously so on occasions. Up front for Samba G.Taylor and Brewer were working hard and held the ball up well for Hill and Brunt in particular to get forward.

Samba took the lead after 20 minutes when a neat one two between G.Taylor and Brunt saw the midfielder accelarate beyond the Albions defence and with the keeper committing himself, Brunt slide the ball home confidently.

Netherfield were not going to take this lying down and roared back at Samba with a succession of attacks. They hit the post when a shot took a slight deflection of the lunging boot of Bassett and another long range effort clipped the top of the bar. Nicholls also made a smart save, diving at the feet of the forward.

Samba had a golden chance to make it 2-0, when Brewer pounced on a very poor kick by the keeper and rolled it to G.Taylor but his shot trickled wide. Samba were getting some joy down the flanks, particularly through the raiding Misouda and this lead to a succession of corners that were generally well defended.

Albion were a constant threat however, and they got what they will consider to be a deserved equaliser when a cross was fired over from the right the ball got caught in a melee of players and was knocked back in front of an empty net for the Albion player to slide in, despite a desperate lunge from C.Taylor.

The goal did not affect Samba's spirit and before half time they found themselves back in front. A move down Samba's right saw the cross come in and although the keeper saved the initial shot, Hill was on hand to tap the ball in.

Half Time: FC Samba 2 v 1 Netherfield Albion

The second half started well for Samba and within the first minute they came so close to extending their lead. Wilford whipped in a corner and Brewer at the back post headed against the post with the keeper beaten. The Albion keeper then excelled to keep out a fierce drive from Brunt.

The game was stretched and Netherfield produced the move of the match raiding down their right side, they exchanged passes before the winger cut back the ball, perfectly for the Albion striker. HIs shot was brilliantly hit but magnificantly saved by Nicholls. It was an all round exhibition of quality football.

Netherfield really turned the screw and the match was remarkably similar to the previous encounter at Burton Road. Albion pushed and pushed but Samba's rearguard action lead by C.Taylor, Wilkinson and Sharp was dogged and determined, and when required Nicholls handling was perfect.

At a time when Netherfield thought they might get back into the match, they were hit by a killer blow. Samba were awarded a free kick in the centre circle. Wilford saw Hill making an early run and picked him out brilliantly. Hill ran through the static defence to lift the ball over the keeper and give Samba some breathing space.

Albion never gave up but after the two-goal cushion had been established Samba did not look like being denied. Although pinned back for long periods, Samba stood firm and although their passing game suffered, it was understandable given the circumstances.

Hill was replaced by Holloway in midfield and E.Taylor replaced an exhausted Bassett at left wing back but it did not disrupt Samba's rhythm. With a minute to go Samba put the icing on a terrific team display with a breakaway fourth goal. Brewer was put clear in the left hand channel but had plenty of work to do. He took his time, entered in the box before squaring for Brunt who had given a lung busting run into the box. He took one touch before side footing home to gave Samba a great victory.

Overall, although at times Samba were unable to play as much football as possibly they would have liked, the commitment, energy and organisation was fantastic. When Samba did have a chance to play they created chances and the level of satisfaction after the game was unsurpassed by any match this season.

Beacon 5 - Netherfield Albion 1

Game of Two Halves

Arnold Longbow 3- 5 Netherfield Albion

Netherfield Albion faced newcomers Arnold Longbow in this Premier Division game, with both teams coming into the fixture on level points it was a must win game for the Albion.

Netherfield Certainly didn't start the way they intended and Arnold soon stamped there authority on the game battling for each ball and winning most of it not all the second balls, Needless to say Netherfield went in to half time 3-0 Down a hatrick from leading marksman Sean Etchells.

Second half however was a different story with a change in personnel and formation Netherfield looked a different side that was out fought in the first half, getting there passing game going on what can only be described as a boggy pitch this was proving tricky for both sides to play fluently the breakthrough however came through once again Daz Williamson with a surging run through the longbow defence drilling a shot in the top corner.

This was followed by two penalties in quick succession, the first converted by Ian Draper and the second pounced on by Joe Jackson from a good save.  Paul Nicholas then got in on the act by steering a shot past the despairing keeper and Ben horton finished proceedings with an emphatic finish from the edge of the box.

A great second half to push Albion into third spot and well in the running at these early stages, Beacon will be another tough test and be rest assured a first half performance of equal quality will be punished more severely and everyone needs to be on the game from the first minute.

Good news is however that Danny Smith who appeared to have been very badly injured in an accidental clash of heads has received the all clear from the hospital with what appears to only be tissue damage to the eye, all at Netherfield would like to wish Dan a quick and speedy recovery.

Netherfield Albion 3 - 4  Cograve Welfare 1sts

Netherfield first team like the Reserves have been knocked out of the cup by Cotgrave Welfare. This time their first team just edged it by the odd goal in a very entertaining game. The Albion gave a good account of their selves against higher opposition but were always chasing Cotgrave who took the lead twice for the Albion to level it 2-2 with two well taken goals by the in form and Albions leading goal scorer Darren Williamson. Cotgrave bagged two quick goals to go 4-2 up one by former player Lewis Johnson. Santiago was then sent off racing out has box fouling the oncoming Cotgrave player. A bit harsh as he had a defender behind him and was not the last line of defense. Jackson came on and bagged a third for the 10 men of Netherfield that made it a nervy end for Cotgrave but they held on to take the win and in to the next round of the cup. A good game to watch for the naturals played in good spirits. Good luck to Cotgrave in the next round.

Netherfield Albion 1sts  V Cograve Welfare 1sts

Its County Cup day once again. The second round of the Intermediate cup has pitted us against a very good solid Cotgrave team from the NSL. Cotgrave only norrowley beat our league team FC Samba by only the odd goal. Netherfield are playing this fixture down at the Rec and will welcome back 2 former star players that served Pates for many a year in Richard Brodsky and the very talented Lewis Johnson. Both players have also had spells at Gedling Town our Ground share team.

Roles Reversed

Netherfield Albion 1sts 5 - Vernon Villa FC 4

Netherfield Albion 2nds 1 - Clifton FC 3

In a weekend where both teams desperately needed to get things back on track the fortunes of
both sides switched as the 1sts recorded a fine win over challenges Vernon Villa 5-4 goals from
Ali,Nicholas,Horton,Boughahousal and Williamson again on target to lift Albion to 5th in the table at this
early stage.

The seconds who were high on confidence after a convincing 7-0 win the previous week suffered a
3-1 defeat to the hands of Clifton although on reflection costly mistakes and missed chances prevented the side the opportunity of at least sharing the spoils.

Win and a Loss for the Albion !

FC Samba 3 - 1 Netherfield Albion 1sts

Netherfield Albion Reserves 7 -0 Basford United "A"

A mixed weekend for Netherfield Albion, the firsts falling to FC Samba 3-1 away who now top the NAA. Gareth Ellis notching once again for the Albion in what was a game of apparent missed opportunities for the away side and the home side taking advantage. The Club would also like to say a special thank you to all associated with FC Samba for making a donation to Sean Todd who broke his leg last week, many thanks to Ric and the Samba boys.

The Seconds finally got there season under way after what has been a shaky start, and progress is obviously being made and unfortunately for Basford United A everything came together for Pete and Phils side as they romped home
to a 7 - 0 Victory.

A VERY BAD CUP DAY FOR THE ALBION !

Nuthall 4-3 Netherfield Albion

Real United 2-2  Netherfield Albion Reserves (Lost 9-8 on Penalties )

Both Netherfield Albion teams were dumped out the League cups in the first round. The firsts narrowly loosing 4-3 Jackson 2 and Williamson the Albion scorers.

The Reserves went in to extra time after a 2-2 draw finally going down 9-8 on penalties.

SHOCKING NEWS !

On a very sad note the clubs current player of the year and well liked Sean Todd suffered a terrible injury during the Nuthall game breaking his fibia and tibia in a tackle and will be out of action for some months. He will be operated on this Sunday 5-10-08.  All at the club want to wish Sean a speedy recovery and will try and help in any way we can. The team will certainly be having a whip round for Sean next week to try and help him financially. Anyone wishing to donate to his cause please contact Shaun Pates or Alan Avery.

A SEVERE WARNING !

Netherfield Albion FC are bitterly disappointed with the amount of clubs that keep approaching our manager Alan Avery and showing no respect for our club continuously trying to tempt Alan away from the Club. The club has suffered in the past, very nearly folding until the arrival of Alan nearly a year ago. Teams from the NSL, Central Midlands, Eastern counties League and one Unibond team have all offered Alan a job. Alan has stated that these are very attractive offers considering that he is new as a manager having yet to achieve anything in his young career. He has stated that he is very happy at the club working with all the players and backroom staff and also with the way that the club is progressing. Also adding that he is very committed to Netherfield and wants to stay building this club and moving it forward to bigger and better things for many a year.

The next club that contacts Alan will be reported to the Notts FA for Illegal Aproach under their set Rules. Alan is also registered as a player as well as our Manager.

RESERVES GET KNOCKED OUT !

Cotgrave Welfare Res 4-1 Netherfield Albion Res

Cotgrave Reserves from the NSL saw off the Reserves with a deserved win. It was more down to mistakes once again that cost the Albion being 3-0 down at half time, then miss fortune in the second half after Ozzie had to come off injured leaving the team down to 10 men having used our only substitute. Also Mc Culloch got himself sent off having said one too many words to the Ref. Credit to the remaining players as they managed to score with the 9 men drawing the second half 1-1 but going down 4-1 at full time.

The 1st Team went down to last seasons Runners up Santos in a very good game of football. Wajahat Ali (above)  scored a tremendous volley shot from the edge of the box. Match report will follow shortly on the PREMIER TEAM  page.

Dennis Hickey and Richard Gallagher have decided to both call it a day at the Albion. Both stating that work and family commitments are to come 1st. Both have recently attended training. Dennis was the only player in the present squad to win silverware in a Netherfield shirt winning the Junior cup final in the 96/97 season. He is a well liked, strong powerful player and has served the club well, having three spells at the club with the recent spell helping keep the club going. Dennis will be greatly missed and all at the club wish him well and look forward to seeing him and Richard on the sidelines thru the season.

5 GOAL THRILLERS !

Netherfield Albion 5-0 Nottinghamshire Res  (16-08-08)

Netherfield Albion Res  0-5 Nottinghamshire  (16-08-08)

A good and bad day for the Albion rolled in to 1. Alan and Draps split the squad in to 2 teams, both looking strong. Draps took control of the so called 1st team and bagged a great 5-0 win against Notts Reserves. Whilst Pete too control of the other team, he had less fortune and went down 0-5 to the Notts 1st team. It was a day of one team loosing discipline and capitulating and the other gelling well to run out worthy winners. Lessons must be learnt from these 2 games.

THE ALBION HOLD THEIR OWN !

Netherfield Albion 1-2 Gedling Town  (12-08-08)

Netherfield Albion 0-0 Unity  (12-08-08)

Finn Mcouls 4-2 Netherfield Albion (9-08-08)

The games are coming thick and fast for the Albion. Phil took full control at the match day fixture with Finns. Unfortunately the team was out muscled by a strong team lead by Kieran Edwards formally of Stanton Ilkeston. The after match hospitality was good, many thanks to Kieran and Finn Mcouls and good luck with your coming season.

On Tuesday 12th Aug the Albion played a double header with the talented youngsters Unity lead by Maurice Samuels and Gedling Town at the Riverside Ground. The match was split into 3 sections of 35 minutes with Netherfield V Unity up 1st Netherfield V Gedling 2nd section of 35 mins with Gedling V Unity to finish. A good work out for all three teams played in good spirits.

Netherfield drew a blank with Unity and lost 2-1 to very a strong Gedling. Highlight for the Albion was a Alan Hendricks superb finish after dribbling past 2 defenders to fire a shot into the bottom corner of the Gedling goal.

From left to right ~

Managers Player of the Year Caine Thomas

Players Player of the year Sean Todd

Most man of the Matches Dennis Hickey

Top Goal Scorer Joe Jackson

 Clubman Phil Schofield.

This years award ceremony was held at our sponsors pub Inn The Bank followed by a great night out in town. It was a great turn out with 95% of players attending as well as the well liked former player Ben Rowson and his better half. The players that did not attend were either away or unfortunately had other commitments. A special mention goes to Danny Sessions who could not attend as he  became a father once again as his good lady gave birth to a son on Saturday morning. Congrats from all at the club Danny.

Alan Avery who led proceedings had kind words to all the players presenting them with individual trophies. Toddy got the players vote just edging out Buckley by the odd vote. Caine took the managers award  for his consistency. Joe ended up top goal scorer. Dennis got the deserved man o matches with Phil getting the Clubman award for his dedication to the Club. There was also a special award given to Pates the Secretary on behalf of the players for all his hard work behind the scenes.

The night continued on into the Nottingham city centre were the boys were met by club stalwart Stef Carey and his good lady Stacey. A short visit to Murphy's Bar then on to Squares were we nearly got thrown out for pinning a peg on each other (don't ask but it was amusing at the time)  The boys and girl then ended up at Reflex bar bopping the night away to the 80's sounds were Caine was seen to be doing the Gayist dance ever to the song ' Im your man ' LOL. The night ended in Flares then food. A great night out, and end to the season with all the players sticking together not just on the pitch but now off it as well.

Four of the award winners with Stef Carey ( sorry for the poor picture quality)
