Netherfield Lift The Title
NAA Premier
League Champions 08/09

Well
done Everyone involved throughout, a brilliant Team effort and well
deserved for a superb season. Onwards and Upwards

Netherfield 1sts Top NAA Prem
Congratulations go to the 1st team squad who are now
placed top of the Notts Amateur Prem.
After what was described as an awful first half
performance from manager Alan Avery, the
team bounced back in the second half to produce a much better display
to take the victory 4 - 2
away at Ashland Rovers, this followed an impressive win away against
struggling Santos 5 - 2. This now leaves the Albion a point
ahead of the rest but with two tough
fixtures in the next two weeks the squad must know that they cannot
rest on there last result
and that maximum points against Arnold Longbow and Vernon Villa are a
must if they want to
continue there push to be champions.
The second squad who currently lie bottom of the Second
division faced tough opposition in 2nd place and flying Kashmir.
With the squad down to a bare 11 and both player managers Pete wilding
and Phil schofield starting the team bonded very well and for the
first 20 minutes really took the game to Kashmir playing neat and tidy
attacking football, however as is football if you don't take your
chances when your on top you get punished. Two goals in quick succession
from Kashmir against the run of play gave the away side a 2 - 0 half
time lead.
The second
half continued like the first with Netherfield applying a lot of
pressure and not allowing Kashmir to play even though they had an
extra man in midfield, Netherfield continued to create chances most notably
debutant Kyle who had one cleared of the line and narrowly firing
over the bar from a tight angle, Kashmir where then reduced to ten
with 10 minutes left to play following a torrent of abuse towards
the referee, however although Netherfield pushed and pushed Kashmir
showed there title potentials by holding firm. Unlucky for Netherfield
who certainly matched there opposition on the day showing a lot more
team spirit and will to win and were never two goals the worse
team.
Netherfield Albion End Of 2008 Round Up
Grey Mare 2 - Netherfield Albion 1
Gedling Southbank 0 - Netherfield Albion 5
Netherfield Albion 6 - Gedling Southbank 2
Netherfield Albion 1 - FC Samba 4
Match Report kindly taken from fc Sambas website
Samba made the short trip to Gedling Town's ground to take on Netherfield Albion, for the return fixture following Samba's 3-1 win earlier in the season.
Samba once again lined up 3-5-2, with Bassett, C.Taylor, Brunt and Sharp all coming into the side after the cup defeat by Santos.
On a large but good playing surface, Samba knew Netherfield would be a stiff test, as they are a good footballing side. The opening exchanges were even enough, with both sides committed in the tackle. Albion liked to use the flanks and did so to good effect putting in a succession of crosses which were dealt with by the Samba defence, although nervously so on occasions. Up front for Samba G.Taylor and Brewer were working hard and held the ball up well for Hill and Brunt in particular to get forward.
Samba took the lead after 20 minutes when a neat one two between G.Taylor and Brunt saw the midfielder accelarate beyond the Albions defence and with the keeper committing himself, Brunt slide the ball home confidently.
Netherfield were not going to take this lying down and roared back at Samba with a succession of attacks. They hit the post when a shot took a slight deflection of the lunging boot of Bassett and another long range effort clipped the top of the bar. Nicholls also made a smart save, diving at the feet of the forward.
Samba had a golden chance to make it 2-0, when Brewer pounced on a very poor kick by the keeper and rolled it to G.Taylor but his shot trickled wide. Samba were getting some joy down the flanks, particularly through the raiding Misouda and this lead to a succession of corners that were generally well defended.
Albion were a constant threat however, and they got what they will consider to be a deserved equaliser when a cross was fired over from the right the ball got caught in a melee of players and was knocked back in front of an empty net for the Albion player to slide in, despite a desperate lunge from C.Taylor.
The goal did not affect Samba's spirit and before half time they found themselves back in front. A move down Samba's right saw the cross come in and although the keeper saved the initial shot, Hill was on hand to tap the ball in.
Half Time: FC Samba 2 v 1 Netherfield Albion
The second half started well for Samba and within the first minute they came so close to extending their lead. Wilford whipped in a corner and Brewer at the back post headed against the post with the keeper beaten. The Albion keeper then excelled to keep out a fierce drive from Brunt.
The game was stretched and Netherfield produced the move of the match raiding down their right side, they exchanged passes before the winger cut back the ball, perfectly for the Albion striker. HIs shot was brilliantly hit but magnificantly saved by Nicholls. It was an all round exhibition of quality football.
Netherfield really turned the screw and the match was remarkably similar to the previous encounter at Burton Road. Albion pushed and pushed but Samba's rearguard action lead by C.Taylor, Wilkinson and Sharp was dogged and determined, and when required Nicholls handling was perfect.
At a time when Netherfield thought they might get back into the match, they were hit by a killer blow. Samba were awarded a free kick in the centre circle. Wilford saw Hill making an early run and picked him out brilliantly. Hill ran through the static defence to lift the ball over the keeper and give Samba some breathing space.
Albion never gave up but after the two-goal cushion had been established Samba did not look like being denied. Although pinned back for long periods, Samba stood firm and although their passing game suffered, it was understandable given the circumstances.
Hill was replaced by Holloway in midfield and E.Taylor replaced an exhausted Bassett at left wing back but it did not disrupt Samba's rhythm. With a minute to go Samba put the icing on a terrific team display with a breakaway fourth goal. Brewer was put clear in the left hand channel but had plenty of work to do. He took his time, entered in the box before squaring for Brunt who had given a lung busting run into the box. He took one touch before side footing home to gave Samba a great victory.
Overall, although at times Samba were unable to play as much football as possibly they would have liked, the commitment, energy and organisation was fantastic. When Samba did have a chance to play they created chances and the level of satisfaction after the game was unsurpassed by any match this season.
Beacon 5 - Netherfield Albion 1
Game of Two Halves
Arnold Longbow 3- 5 Netherfield Albion
Netherfield Albion faced newcomers Arnold Longbow in
this Premier Division game, with both teams coming into the fixture on
level points it was a must win game for the Albion.
Netherfield Certainly didn't start the way they
intended and Arnold soon stamped there authority on the game battling
for each ball and winning most of it not all the second balls,
Needless to say Netherfield went in to half time 3-0 Down a hatrick
from leading marksman Sean Etchells.
Second half however was a different story with a change
in personnel and formation Netherfield looked a different side that
was out fought in the first half, getting there passing game going on
what can only be described as a boggy pitch this was proving tricky
for both sides to play fluently the breakthrough however came through
once again Daz Williamson with a surging run through the longbow
defence drilling a shot in the top corner.
This was followed by two penalties in quick succession,
the first converted by Ian Draper and the second pounced on by Joe
Jackson from a good save. Paul Nicholas then got in on the act
by steering a shot past the despairing keeper and Ben horton finished
proceedings with an emphatic finish from the edge of the box.
A great second half to push Albion into third spot and
well in the running at these early stages, Beacon will be another
tough test and be rest assured a first half performance of equal
quality will be punished more severely and everyone needs to be on the
game from the first minute.
Good news is however that Danny Smith who appeared to have been very
badly injured in an accidental clash of heads has received the all
clear from the hospital with what appears to only be tissue damage to
the eye, all at Netherfield would like to wish Dan a quick and speedy
recovery.
CUP EXIT !!!!
V
Netherfield Albion 3 - 4 Cograve Welfare 1sts
Netherfield
first team like the Reserves have been knocked out of the cup by
Cotgrave Welfare. This time their first team just edged it by the
odd goal in a very entertaining game. The Albion gave a good account
of their selves against higher opposition but were always chasing
Cotgrave who took the lead twice for the Albion to level it 2-2 with
two well taken goals by the in form and Albions leading goal scorer
Darren Williamson. Cotgrave bagged two quick goals to go 4-2 up one
by former player Lewis Johnson. Santiago was then sent off racing
out has box fouling the oncoming Cotgrave player. A bit harsh as he
had a defender behind him and was not the last line of defense.
Jackson came on and bagged a third for the 10 men of Netherfield
that made it a nervy end for Cotgrave but they held on to take the
win and in to the next round of the cup. A good game to watch for
the naturals played in good spirits. Good luck to Cotgrave in the
next round.
